Kotlin Multiplatform Development

Share the application core. Respect each platform.

Kotlin Multiplatform development from Romania for European product teams building iOS, Android, and desktop applications with shared domain logic and platform-aware interfaces.

What MTD provides

A clear role in moving the work forward.

MTD designs and implements Kotlin Multiplatform application architectures, shared domain and integration layers, platform interfaces, and cross-platform verification. We help teams decide what to share, what to keep native, and how to introduce shared code into an existing product.

Who it is for

Teams ready to create meaningful change.

  • Product teams maintaining iOS and Android applications
  • Organisations adding desktop to a mobile product
  • Engineering leaders evaluating shared Kotlin logic
  • Teams integrating a platform SDK into a custom application

Problems we solve

Complexity that needs a practical answer.

  • Business rules implemented differently across platforms
  • Repeated integration work and divergent application behavior
  • A shared UI approach that does not fit every platform
  • Unclear boundaries between shared code and native implementation

How delivery works

Clear steps. Shared responsibility.

01

Assess

Review existing applications, SDK dependencies, target platforms, and the team's Kotlin and native experience.

02

Prove

Implement a representative workflow to test shared logic, native integration, and platform-specific constraints.

03

Build

Develop the shared core and platform interfaces with explicit ownership and versioning boundaries.

04

Verify

Test critical journeys on each target platform and establish a maintainable release process.

What should be shared?

Domain rules, data handling, and integration behavior are useful candidates when multiple clients need consistent behavior. User interfaces and device interactions require a separate decision: the right boundary depends on the product and each platform's needs.

In our TI-Messenger project, Kotlin Multiplatform carried shared messaging and domain behavior. iOS received a custom interface, while Android and desktop reused most of their UI implementation. That delivery is a concrete example of selective sharing.

Where an engagement starts

Bring the target platforms, existing codebase, critical user journeys, and SDK constraints. We use these to define a representative implementation slice, review integration risks, and propose a delivery scope. Reuse targets and delivery estimates follow that assessment.

Related MTD perspectives

Questions before we start.

Can Kotlin Multiplatform work with a native iOS interface?

Yes. A shared Kotlin layer can support an iOS-specific interface. Our TI-Messenger delivery used that approach while sharing domain behavior across iOS, Android, and desktop.

Does every application need a shared UI?

No. Shared application logic and shared UI are separate decisions. We assess user experience, platform APIs, team skills, and maintenance needs before choosing the boundary.

Why MTD

Our TI-Messenger engagement for a German statutory health insurer delivered iOS, Android, and desktop clients on one Kotlin Multiplatform foundation. The case study explains the shared core, custom iOS interface, and reused Android and desktop UI implementation.
